"How to Measure Time" is a series of artworks by Suwon Lee that reflects on existence and the nature of temporality. The pieces in the series bring together personal histories, political insights, and profound social critique, offering a deeper understanding of the complexities of time. For this special edition, “Time Piece”, Lee has created a collage that incorporates various pieces from the series, resulting in a distinct and singular work.
Suwon Lee is a Korean-Venezuelan artist based in Madrid and a member of the recent Venezuelan diaspora.
In her work, photography emerges as the primary—though not exclusive—medium to explore light as a physical and metaphorical force, revealing different dimensions of human essence. Her images delve into themes such as collective memory, identity, social crises, time, and our connection to nature, resulting in compositions that are both meticulously crafted and quietly unsettling in their serene beauty.
She has exhibited individually in Caracas, Madrid, and Seoul, and her work has been featured internationally, including at Americas Society, New York, and Poli/Gráfica, Puerto Rico (2024); MoMA, New York (2023); Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid (2021); Guangzhou Image Triennial (2021); Vincent Price Museum, USA (2018); and Fondation Cartier, Paris (2013). Her work is held in collections such as MoMA New York, Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, CIFO Miami, and Museu de Arte Brasileira FAAP.
